It’s been busy at Ripley’s Emporium!

This weeks blog is very short an sweet as I have been busy working on lots of commissions.

Look out for some brand new Knitting Needle roll ups at https://www.beakerbutton.co.uk/ which will be delivered to the shop on Saturday.

One thing that is going on in the sewing world at the moment is the British Sewing Awards 2019 https://www.sewmag.co.uk/awards. This is an annual award run by Sew Magazine and showcases some of the best and most popular sewing brands, retailers and blogs from all over the UK.

I thought I would share with you the shortlisted sewing blogs:

  • The Fold Line: https://thefoldline.com A blog that primarily focuses on patterns and pattern reviews. I was having a look at the Vogue patterns on the site using my laptop and did find the page didn’t sit very well on screen. The site is really informative however and is worth a look if you are interested in making clothes.
  • Curvy Sewing Collective: https://curvysewingcollective.com/ I used to folllow this site a few years ago. At the time the blogs weren’t relevent to me but I have started following them again. The site is a great resources for plus size garment patterns. Well worth looking at it you are challenged width ways like me!
  • Tilly and the Buttons: https://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/ I love this site. From on line workshops to sewing gifts it is an easy to navigate learning resource for beginners to more advanced sewers. It is an easy to navigate site which is a bonus.
  • Crafty Pinup: https://www.thecraftypinup.co.uk/ This site has a more vintage vibe to it. If you are looking for small presents for sewers and knitters, head to the shop section where there are some adorable sewing themed enamal pins.
  • Minerva Craft: https://www.minervacrafts.com/blog/all I mainly use Minerva Craft for fabric and always have a great service from them but they have an additional on-line community which is a great support for help with patterns. A bit like Sewing Quarter you can also join their craft club.
  • What Katie Sews: http://whatkatiesews.net/about/ Katie is where I want to be in a few years in terms of knowledge! The site is beautifully informal and follows Katie as she creates her everyday wardrobe.

While there are many sewing and craft blogs out there, (including this one!) they are a wonderful way of sharing information, hints and tips for sewers and crafters to share. They don’t replace face-to-face lessons and workshops but they do sit nicely alongside them.

Sewing can be quite a solitary hobby / profession and if things aren’t going right, it is very easy to doubt your ability. To be able to switch a computer and have immediate on line support can only be a good thing.

So, from me, a big thank you to all the blog sites above who have, at one time or another helped me when I have lost me way or have been looking for inspiration and, of course, good luck to all of you.
